Obama warns Netanyahu: Don’t sour Iran talks with Congress speech

US president says difference in stance on Tehran is separate from the decision not to meet with PM during his Washington visit; Netanyahu says he’s determined to speak to Congress to ‘prevent dangerous agreement’ with Iran.

Yitzhak Benhorin, Gilad Morag

US President Barack Obama on Monday warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against souring nuclear negotiations with Iran with his planned Congress address.

“It does not make sense to sour the negotiations a month or two before they’re about to be completed and we should play that out. If, in fact, we can get a deal, then we should embrace that,” the president said in a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“If we can’t get a deal, then we’ll have to make a set of decisions and, as I’ve said to Congress, I’ll be the first one to work with them to apply even stronger measures against Iran,” he said.

“But what’s the rush? Unless your view is that it’s not possible to get a deal with Iran and it shouldn’t even be tested. And that, I cannot agree with, because as the president of the United States, I’m looking at what the options are if we don’t get a diplomatic resolution. And those options are narrow, and they’re not attractive,” the president added.

However, despite the “real differences” between the American administration’s position and that of Israel on Iran, “that’s separate and apart from Mr. Netanyahu coming to Washington,” Obama said.

When asked about the decision not to meet with Netanyahu when the Israeli prime minister visits Washington next month to address Congress on the Iranian threat, Obama reiterated that the decision was made due to the proximity to the elections in Israel.

Her added that “as much as I love Angela, if she was two weeks away from an election, she probably would not have received an invitation to the White House, and I suspect she wouldn’t have asked for one.”

He went on to say that the decision also “has to do with how we do business, and I think it’s important for us to maintain these protocols because the US-Israeli relationship is not about a particular party.”

Netanyahu is due to address a joint session of Congress about Iran’s nuclear program on March 3, just two weeks before Israeli elections, following an invitation from John Boehner, the Republican speaker of the House.

Boehner’s invitation has caused consternation in both Israel and the United States, largely because it is seen as Netanyahu, a hawk on Iran, working with the Republicans to thumb their noses at Obama’s policy on Iran.

As a result, Israeli officials told Reuters they are considering whether Netanyahu should speak to a closed-door session of Congress, rather than in a prime-time TV address, so as to drain some of the intensity from the event, a source said.

Another option is for the prime minister to make his speech at the annual meeting of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington the same week, rather than in Congress.

Officials in Netanyahu’s office said that for now his schedule had not changed. “In the past days the prime minister has been approached several times about his trip to the United States,” one official said. “At the moment there is no change in the plans.”

The American president warned the prime minister not to let the relationship between the United States and Israel be “clouded with what could be perceived as partisan politics.”

“This isn’t a relationship founded on affinity between the Labor Party and the Democratic Party or the Likud and the Republican Party. This is the US-Israeli relationship that extends beyond parties and has to do with that unbreakable bond that we feel and – and our commitment to Israel’s security and the shared values that we have,” Obama said.

Netanyahu, meanwhile, was not concerned about what his visit may do to US-Israel ties. “From the state’s establishment to this day, there have been significant disagreements between Israel and the US and relations remained strong. This will be the case this time as well,” he said during a launch event for the Likud’s Russian-language elections campaign.

On nuclear negotiations with Iran, the US president said issues and gaps in negotiations have been “sufficiently narrowed and sufficiently clarified” and that the so-called P5+1 group has now offered Iran a deal that “allows them to have peaceful nuclear power but gives us the absolute assurance that is verifiable that they are not pursuing a nuclear weapon.”

The issues, he said, were no longer technical but rather political. “The issue now is whether Iran has the political will and desire to get a deal done,” Obama said.

The US president also said he does not believe an extension would be “useful” unless Iran can agree to the basic outlines of a deal.

“If Iran has no aspiration to get nuclear weapon, there should be a possibility to get a deal,” Obama said. “They have to make a decision.”

Netanyahu, meanwhile, said he was determined to go to Washington and address Congress.

“While there are those who are focusing on protocol or politics, “A bad deal with Iran is forming in Munich that will endanger Israel’s existence. According to reports, the agreement will allow them to produce dozens of nuclear bombs. As prime minister, it is my duty to do everything to prevent this dangerous agreement and that’s why I’m determined to go to Washington and present Israel’s position before the members of Congress and the American people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sen Bernie Sanders, an independent, is the first senator to announce he won’t attend Netanyahu’s speech. Democratic Reps. John Lewis and Jim Clyburn are among a handful in their party who have pledged to boycott Netanyahu’s speech.

“The president of the United States heads up our foreign policy and the idea that the president wasn’t even consulted – that is wrong,” Sanders said. “I am not going. I may watch it on TV, but I’m not going.”

Report: White House Preparing Military Response If Diplomacy With Russia Fails

by Mac Slavo | | February 10, 2015

The world is now on the cusp of total war. This is the claim made by former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts in arecent editorial. And though doom predictions are quite popular given what’s going on in the world as of late, to disregard Roberts’ assessment as fear-mongering or hype would be short-sighted and dangerous. No, this time is not different, and if political leaders around the world, especially in the United States, Russia and Europe, don’t come to an agreement on the future of Ukraine then it is only a matter of time before we eventually cross the line into a scenario from which there is no return – for all we know, we may have already crossed it at this point.

While the American media has generally ignored the broader implications of what’s happening in Ukraine, often dismissing it as Europe’s problem and one that has no long-term ramifications for the U.S., the fact is that the United States is directly involved in not only the political machinations behind the scenes of Ukraine’s new government, but military operations as evidenced by recent videos showing armed American-English speaking personnel on the ground during the recent artillery shelling of the city of Mariupol.

This weekend European leaders from France and Germany met with Vladimir Putin to negotiate a peace settlement. President Obama attended as well, but the Nobel Peace Prize winner seems to be there just as a formality because he made no effort to put forth a peace plan of any kind.

In fact, if anything, Obama suggested that he is prepared to take things to the next level if Vladimir Putin doesn’t agree to the West’s demands. According to a report from the BBC President Obama has made it clear that the United States is on a war footing with Russia and we are now exploring all available options to deal with Putin should things in the Ukraine sour.

US President Barack Obama says yes to diplomacy, but then adds: “Now, it is true that if, in fact, diplomacy fails, what I’ve asked my team to do is to look at all options.

“What other means can we put in place to change Mr Putin’s calculus? And the possibility of lethal defensive weapons is one of those options that’s being examined.”

While Europe maintains that they want to find a solution in the Ukraine, it seems that the United States is making demands that Russia refuses to agree to.

But Russia is having none of it. This morning a Kremlin spokesman was quoted by Russian media as saying that “nobody has ever talked to the president in the tone of an ultimatum – and could not do so even if they wanted to,” an obvious response to whatever negotiations were taking place behind closed doors.

Russia and the United States have sparred back and forth for decades, but the situation in the Ukraine seems to be the most serious since the end of the cold war and one that could escalate to widespread conflict should cooler heads not prevail.

President Obama, of course, isn’t the only one leaving military options on the table.

Vladimir Putin himself recently warned that Russia will not put up with the West’s “hostile acts” and suggested nuclear consequences are one possible outcome if a peace deal is not reached:

He accused Barack Obama of adopting a “hostile” approach in naming Russia as a threat to the world in the U.S. president’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 24.

“We hope that our partners will realize the futility of attempts to blackmail Russia and remember what consequences discord between major nuclear powers could bring for strategic stability,” Putin told Serbia’s Politika newspaper on the eve of his visit to the Balkan nation today.

Putin said that Obama had identified Russian aggression in Europe as one of the three “major threats facing humanity,” alongside the Ebola virus and Islamic State.

“Together with the sanctions against entire sectors of our economy, this approach can be called nothing but hostile,” Putin said.

Full report

Last month the Russian President ordered strategic nuclear bombers to fly over the English channel into civilian air traffic corridors as a show of force to the West. He’s also reportedly sent bombers along the west coast of the United States from Alaska to California, and it has been suggested that the flybys may have also been responsible for a widespread outage of air traffic control systems in Los Angeles.

What’s happening behind the closed doors of national security meetings in the United States and Russia will remain hidden from the public. Unfortunately, we’ll be the last to know and should these leaders fail to come to an agreement in Europe we may only find out once the missiles start flying.

It’s starting to look like the world really is on the cusp of total war.

Israeli TV shows ‘Iranian missile’ that ‘can reach far beyond Europe’

By Times of Israel staff January 21, 2015, 9:21 pm

A satellite image shown on Israel’s Channel 2 news, January 21, 2015, said to show a new long-range Iranian missile on a launch pad outside Tehran. (Channel 2 screenshot)

Iran has built a 27-meter-long missile, capable of delivering a warhead “far beyond Europe,” and placed it on a launch pad at a site close to Tehran, an Israeli television report said Wednesday, showing what it said were the first satellite images of the missile ever seen in the West.

It stressed that the missile could be used to launch spacecraft or satellites, but also to carry warheads.

The Channel 2 news report showed satellite imagery documenting what it said was Iran’s “very rapid progress” on long-range missile manufacture.

It showed one photograph of a site near Tehran, which it said the West had known about for two years, where Iran was working on engines for its long-range missiles.

It then showed a satellite photograph of a second site, nearby, which featured a launch pad, with the 27-meter missile on it — an Iranian missile “never seen before” by the West.

The missile is capable of taking a manned spacecraft or satellite into space, the TV report said.

It is also capable of carrying a conventional or non-conventional warhead “far beyond Europe,” the report added.

The TV report said the satellite images were taken by the Eros B commercial Earth observation satellite, which was designed and manufactured by Israel Aircraft Industries, launched in 2006, and is owned by the Israeli firm ImageSat International.

Israel has long charged that Iran is working toward a nuclear weapons capability, and has publicly opposed any negotiated accommodation with Iran that would leave it with a uranium enrichment capability for potential nuclear weapons use.

WASHINGTON – As the Obama administration opens up diplomatic relations with Cuba after a half-century, concern is looming over whether the United States similarly will extend diplomatic recognition to Iran and restore connections severed in 1979 when the Islamic revolution brought conservative clerics to power following the overthrow of the U.S.-backed Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Unlike Cuba, however, Iran today is a major Shiite power that is battling for influence in the Middle East against Sunni Saudi Arabia, a U.S. ally. Its military is estimated to be more powerful than all the Sunni Arab countries’ militaries combined.

But its interests have aligned lately with the U.S. Like America, it similarly seeks the defeat of the radical Sunni Islamic State, or ISIS.

The two diverge over Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, which Washington regards as a prelude to developing nuclear weapons, but the administration realizes it can only curtail, not eliminate, it.

The concern is that President Barack Obama will reprise his December Cuba surprise by re-opening diplomatic ties with the Islamic clerics in Tehran.

WND sought comment on this prospect from the State Department but, to date, there has been no response.

In fact, there appears to be efforts under way to curtail such a possibility.

Middle East expert Andres Cala tells that those efforts could occur even at the expense of furthering American interests.

Former assistant secretary of State for Latin America and Middle East expert Elliott Abrams raised this concern in a recent article in the Weekly Standard.

“Imagine for a moment that you are a Saudi, Emirati, Jordanian, or Israeli,” Abrams said. “Your main national security worry these days is Iran – Iran’s rise, its nuclear program, its troops fighting in Iraq and Syria, its growing influence from Yemen through Iraq and Syria to Lebanon. Your main ally against Iran for the past decades has been the United States. Naturally, you worry about American policy.

“And now, you turn on the TV and see the announcement about the change in American policy in Cuba,” he said. “Re-establishment of diplomatic relations. Lots of changes in the embargo that will mean plenty more cash for the Castros. A change in the whole American official position vis-à-vis Cuba. … As to real changes in the regime – changes in its foreign or domestic policies – none. Zero. Zip. So, you conclude that in the long struggle between the United States and the Castro regime since 1959, the Americans have finally blinked.”

Cala points out that the reaction to opening of relations with Cuba generally was “mild to positive,” suggesting to Obama that any fallout from a nuclear agreement with Iran might also be manageable.

While such an agreement is within reach, the administration without hesitation agreed to an extension of talks to March 2015.

Cala said that such a deal could have been reached at the November meeting but Obama balked, believing that the timing wasn’t quite right.

“Possibly he didn’t want to complicate the politically easier Cuba opening,” Cala said. “(Obama) does seem to favor a methodical approach toward taking on challenges, first one, then another, rather than bunching them into a package.

“Both Israeli and Saudi officials have complained about the alleged threat from the Shiite crescent stretching from Tehran through Damascus to Beirut,” Cala said. “And (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu has repeatedly warned that the possibility Iran might eventually produce a nuclear bomb is an ‘existential threat’ to Israel, though Israel has a large undeclared nuclear arsenal of its own.”

Cala believes, however, that Obama’s delay could give those against opening up to Iran more time to consolidate their opposition, especially now that both Houses of Congress will be under Republican control, which tends to show more favor to Israel’s position.

“Along with Israel and the Sunni Arab countries, U.S. hardliners are pushing to expand the war in Syria to have the U.S. military join in attacking the Iranian-backed regime of Bashar al-Assad,” Cala said.

On the other hand, Cala sees U.S. strategic interests aligning with those of Iran, especially over the fight against ISIS and the need to bolster the embattled Iraqi military. Iran is providing support to Iraqi and Kurdish forces, as is the U.S.

Cala also believes the strained U.S. relationship with Israel and Saudi Arabia will make Obama unwilling “to carry water for them in their rivalry with Shiite Iran.”

“If Obama finally decides to complete the deal with Iran,” Cala said, “he can expect a difficult time with not just Republicans but even Democrats in Congress, where the Israel lobby remains one of the most powerful and effective. Indeed, the likely congressional pressure would be toward increasing sanctions on Iran, not removing them.”

Unless a nuclear deal can be reached, Cala sees Iran moving strategically closer to Russia.

“Iran and Russia broadened economic ties only days after the failure to sign the nuclear deal in November,” Cala said. “Though the two countries have historically had tense relations, they also have been stepping up their strategic cooperation around shared objectives in Syria and the Caucasus. But both now have something else in common, sanctions from the West.”

Moscow has agreed to build two more nuclear plants in Iran and also has offered to supply nuclear fuel for them.

At the same time, Cala sees Russia using Iran as a bargaining chip against further Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis. And that relationship could only deepen if no nuclear deal is struck between Iran and the West.

“From the view of some U.S. diplomats,” Cala said, “Russian-Iranian cooperation could even unlock the stalemate in Syria by brokering Assad’s departure and his replacement with a leader who could gain more support from the Sunni population.

“Iran and Russia have signaled they would accept Assad stepping down and the inclusion of Assad’s opposition, as long as the status quo is otherwise maintained and the Alawites, Shiites, Christians and other minorities are protected,” he said.

Nevertheless, the Obama administration is concerned about upsetting Turkey and Saudi Arabia which want Assad removed by force.

In addition, the Ukraine crisis has made it more complicated for the administration to work with Russia in resolving the Syrian civil war.

For the Obama administration, Cala said, more could be lost if a deal with Iran over its nuclear program isn’t struck.

“Obama can judge a deal as too risky and close the diplomatic window with Iran,” Cala said. “That, however, could lead to worsening Middle Eastern instability and feed a new Cold War with Russia. Iran has explicitly said it will bolster its ties with Russia and China if negotiations break off. It has also said it will not extend negotiations again.”

TEL AVIV – Russia is preparing a contingency plan to prompt Hezbollah and possibly the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad into a direct military conflict with Israel, according to a French official who has been apprised of the situation.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the contingency was meant to be used as a card against the West, particularly the U.S. and European Union, which has been engaged in efforts to isolate Moscow.

This past week, the U.S. and E.U. adapted tighter sanctions on the Russian economy, including restrictions on investments in the Crimea, with emphasis on Russian Black Sea oil and gas exploration and tourism.

The official said there is information Russia in recent weeks successfully shipped to Hezbollah a large convoy of Iskandar ballistic missiles and surface-to-air missiles. The missiles were received, despite Israel’s alleged airstrikes in Syria targeting Russian-shipped weapons earlier this month, the official said.

The official said Russia has not made any decision about agitating a Hezbollah attack on Israel, but views a possible conflict in the Mideast as a card it can play in its confrontation with the West, particularly in Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem traveled to Russia to meet with the country’s president, Vladimir Putin, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.

WND reported at the time that according to a source in Assad’s regime, Putin and Lavrov assured Moualem that Russia “won’t stand for” any Western attack on Assad and that the Russians pledged “support” and “protection” to the Assad regime.

That pledge came amid pressure from Turkey and Saudi Arabia on the Obama administration to expand the fight against ISIS in Syria to also target Assad’s forces.

What is Going on with the Russian Ruble?

Posted by lamarzulli on December 17, 2014

Russia’s next financial option may be ‘nuclear’

Russian companies need to buy dollars now in order to pay off foreign debts in December, this month we have to pay over $30 billion to foreign creditors. In January we don’t have much to pay in dollars, so the rate may stabilize,” Prosviryakov said.

The collapse of the Russian Ruble, in my opinion is deliberate and it comes on the heels of the tumbling price of oil, as crude fell to below $60 per barrel.

I would posit that this has been a deliberate push-back by the US in retaliation to BRICS—Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa—who want another default currency other than the US petro-dollar.

This whole international scenario is being manipulated by the US and the Saudi’s.  Of course here in the USA we are all enjoying the low price at the pump.  But here’s the rub, with this sudden fall of the price of a barrel of oil, it begs the question, why didn’t this happen let’s say a few years ago, when the price at the pump was almost $6 bucks a gallon?

What I’m getting at is this.  The whole game is controlled and rigged.  The Saudi’s are in bed with us as we sell them arms and buy their oil.

The BRICS nations pose a direct threat to the US petro-dollar and this is why the price of oil has dropped.  Russia is the second largest exporter of oil, in the world, which sells over 7.2 million barrels a day just behind Saudi Arabia.  Another point to consider is this, when Saddam was in control or Iraq, and started to trade oil in Euro’s, rather than the US dollar.  This is one reason I believe we invaded that country.

Examine the quote above:  Russian companies need to buy dollars now in order to pay off foreign debts in December, this month we have to pay over $30 billion to foreign creditors. In January we don’t have much to pay in dollars, so the rate may stabilize,”

What Americans should be outraged at is the blatant manipulation of the gas prices in this country.  There is no gas shortage only greed and avarice on the part of Big Oil!

In closing todays post.  It will be interesting to see what Putin does to counterbalance this financial attack  by the US.  Another point to consider is this.  If the US looses its grip on the petro-dollar it could cause a major financial collapse in this country.  Meanwhile keep looking at the Bill Cosby stories that won’t go away instead of the fact that Congress just passed another 1.2 TRILLION dollar budget.  It’s beyond the pale at this point…

Iran Is About To Get Nukes And Invade Iraq While Turkey Is Going To Soon Invade Egypt While The U.S. Gets Nothing

By Walid Shoebat (Shoebat Exclusive)

In the Middle East region, everyone is an “enemy-ally”. I know this is an oxymoron, but when Iran just switched from number one “enemy” to the U.S. to become an “ally” overnight as it began bombing ISIS, westerners need to take note. The Iranians at first denied the news, but then confirmed it – a few days later.

But in confusing oxymoronic Middle East everything is possible. Here, try to follow the Obama logic: Iran  has become an ‘enemy-ally’ of the U.S. in addition to Syria’s Bashar Al-Assad who also welcomes U.S. aid in the war, which the U.S. is fighting against ISIS, while it is also fighting against Syria, which wants to partner with the U.S., which partners with Turkey that is officially a U.S. ally, and is the only one which is not helping the U.S., instead it is aiding U.S. enemy number one: ISIS.

Sounds confusing or what? But we told you so that as soon as the U.S. efforts began to fight ISIS, that Turkey will side with ISIS and that Iran will aid the U.S. and move into Iraq sooner or later and we also said that alliances in the Middle East can switch quickly on a dime; today they say Russia is allied with Iran and it visited Turkey and they go on and on with prophetic conclusions, but it is crucial to only stick with Scripture to evaluate the Antichrist’s end-times alliances and Christ’s end-times alliances. The goats and sheep nations has already been determined.

The plan for a grand Islamic Caliphate led by Turkey is on the horizon and as soon as ISIS is contained either militarily or through inclusion by Turkey, we will see the next phase. As we always maintained, the U.S. will come out of the Middle East empty handed while Iran and Turkey will expand their spheres of influence to finally form an Islamic League which will threaten global security. The facts on the ground are embarrassing for the Obama Administration. The U.S. is currently appeasing Iran, while Iran is working hard and fast to acquire the nuclear weapon and is covering its tracks well by bombing ISIS and supplies Iraq with jet fighters, by that Persia, as we maintained, is extending its muscle into Babylon while Turkey, the Leopard, is extending its sphere of influence into the Mediterranean region.

Today, the United States is in check and is staggering in confusion since Iran is an enemy, and now since the pull-out of Iraq, the U.S. is finding itself with little choices. On the one hand it looks the other way when its arch enemy, Iran, regardless if it encroaches into Iraq is hitting ISIS.  The U.S. is scratching its head weighing which piece in the chess game will it sacrifice between an ISIS takeover to create the Caliphate or Iran consuming Iraq. All the speeches and announcements by the White House and all the talks of working with Turkey, including Chuck Hagel himself is all toast.

Lesson number one is this, never listen to any statement made by politicians, presidential speeches or rhetoric. Things are happening as the good book etched and is what we see happening on the ground. I have never once listened to any presidential speech or White House press releases. I do not even listen to moving speeches from Netanyahu or anyone else, its all a waste of my time and is why when it comes to speeches, I only settle with the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus was reaching out to the crowd to revitalize them from the ravages of repression.

The Iranians, the persecutors of the Church and the haters of Jews calculated that their support of U.S. efforts against ISIS would give them leverage in the next round of negotiations to gain momentum to get their dream bomb and Iran had played its cards well. Iran was willing to support America’s war against the Sandinista government in Nicaragua in return for much needed American weapons. Not only that, Iran was willing to have those weapons delivered through Israel and Iran supported the U.S. coalition against the Taliban. Tehran knows exactly what it wants: to preserve its nuclear program – as allowed by the NPT – and to get rid of the nasty sanctions regime for good. The U.S. is appeasing Iran, while Iran is working hard and fast to acquire the nuclear weapon. Iran will eventually gain its nuke that will be lobbed on Saudi Arabia and all the hopefuls in the prophecy circles who predicted that Israel will stop it were wrong as we proved. Prophecy speculators who do not use the whole text in context should also be avoided as much as the politicians.

Another factor that helped Iran’s rising is the destruction of Iraq’s regime. This was not only satisfying to Iran but it also opened the door to a dramatic shift in Iran’s geopolitical influence. Iraq now has a Shiite regime. The Iranians anticipated the American move and played its chess piece by creating pro-Iranian elements using the Iraqi Shiites and with the United States engaged in a war against Sunni insurgents, the Shia, already a majority, moved to fill the void. Not only did the United States loose its bishops, but they also added a major check by Iran to its main lover in the Middle East: Saudi Arabia.

And if we notice the price of gasoline lately, it is getting lower and Saudi Arabia, the whore of Babylon, is hurting as its client the United States distances itself by the day since the ‘love’ is waxing cold. When it comes to the national security of any nation, it quickly finds strange bedfellows as we find at times cooperation between even Israel and Saudi Arabia.

This is why there is so much confusion as to when Gog and Magog (Turkey and the Muslim Commonwealth of Independent States of the Southern Republics of Russia), Persia and Libya invades Israel (1), that “Sheba and Dedan” (Saudi and Gulf States) is standing on the sidelines mocking the Turkish invasion of Israel saying “Have you come to plunder?” (Ezekiel 38:13). The Arabs do not move on the kill against Israel because just as Israel, this beast want to burn and destroy the harlot and ravish her (Revelation 17:16).

The war is obvious, Iran is an Islamic Revolution, just as it is with Turkey. I could care less when I read the news that US Secretary of State John Kerry denied there was any military coordination between Washington and Tehran or that Turkey is an ally, its becoming obvious, its an enemy, and the chips will fall into their place exactly as the railroad track leads us in the Bible (do I get an amen).

And now we see from Middle East sources, Turkey is playing the role in building its animosity with Egypt and Saudi Arabia and its courting Tunisia, Morocco and Libya exactly as predicted in Daniel 11 and as we warned. We translated to English this revealing segment from the Syrian Committee for Radio and TV their conclusion:

“The Ottoman aspiration for energy seems to be permanent as we see the struggle over energy sources especially the Mediterranean tripartite agreement between Egypt and Greece and Cyprus came against drilling in the waters of the Mediterranean was a slap to Turkey, and is something which escalated the Turkish conflict with the Arabs to a higher degree. Also, no one is naive any longer regarding Turkey’s interest in Libya and its support to the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia and in another way with the Tunisian Renaissance movement, the ruling party in Morocco or the Justice and development Party, which is under the broad umbrella of the organization of the International Muslim Brotherhood. Here we see the re-initiation of all the features of the past history [of the Ottomans] playing in the present conflict all over again. But this time the conflict carries much more weight than just to control and subdue the other nations to Ottoman will. It has become obvious it is an ongoing global war over the dispute for energy sources.”

Here in one paragraph, the Middle East analysts get it without even reading a Bible while in the West which has plenty Bibles, they do not even get it. Antichrist wants the “riches” of Egypt, North Africa and the whole region.

And I must repeat, it now becomes clear as to why there is so much confusion as to when Gog and Magog (Turkey and the Muslim Commonwealth of Independent States of the Southern Republics of Russia), Persia and Libya invades Israel that “Sheba and Dedan” (Saudi and Gulf States) is standing on the sidelines and how Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Iran become a league, an alliance while Saudi Arabia and Egypt become the Antichrist’s arch enemy which is eventually overtaken by Turkey. Antichrist’s power, as Daniel predicted, stems from the “Great Sea” (The Mediterranean) seeking to control it and struggles with “Chittim” (Greece/Western Coastlands) and we see the spark just beginning and it is only a matter of time. The whole world knows that the concubine of the U.S., Turkey, has betrayed her faithful master and is luring ISIS, its new goddess lover with the cup of the wine of her fornication; the oil that is robbed from Syria.

The Ottoman is now fulfilling Europe’s dream to rid the market from Russian control over its need for gas and to make the Turkish port of Ceyhan as the provider which the artery must pass through Kurdistan. Turkey needs to smash through borders and the only way to do it is through the creation of an Islamic League. Energy, wealth and commerce is always the means for a theocratic end in the Muslim mind.

And it is no surprise that Egyptians, a couple of weeks ago woke up to read the headlines: “Turkey looming war against Egypt”,  “Turkey threatens Egypt war in response to Sisi”, while headline by Al Masry newspaper captioned the headline “Turkey responded to Egypt, Cyprus and Greece by showing force at sea,” and the Liberation newspaper was entitled “War Is At the Gates of The Mediterranean”. Although these were rumors of wars, the hint is obvious, Daniel 11 is looming on the horizon.

Unlike westerners who forgive and forget history, Egyptians read the writing on the wall, the influence of Islamism is not ended in Egypt and the future of Egypt will be dire and will continue to face civil unrest (Isaiah 19), Turkey’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood and its interest to bully Egypt is not without repercussions. Russia and Turkey will butt-heads over who is to be the superpower in the region.

We can see already Egypt is the bone that two top dogs are fighting for. On the one hand Putin has been looking to expand Russia’s sphere of influence in the Middle East and was eager to welcome the winner Field Marshal Sisi visiting Moscow. On the other hand, Erdogan welcomed the looser, the Muslim Brotherhood in hope to advance its Islamist aspirations in the region using it to catapult its Ottoman sphere back into Egypt to reclaim it as it was in the times of the Ottomans. To gain the Middle East, one must rule Egypt.

Russia is reaping economic benefits by gaining access to a new market in a military context, as reflected in an initial $2 billion deal to supply aircraft and helicopters to Egypt.

Biblically Egypt is significant “… When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down” (Ezekiel 30:3-4)

So how will Egypt fall? Egypt will fall to the Antichrist in Daniel 11:40-45 who is the “king of the North”, which is Asia Minor (Turkey)  when he attacks Egypt who is the “king of the South” (Dan11,40-42). That the king of the North is Asia Minor: Turkey.

We do not come up with such conclusions of who is King of the North and King of the South haphazardly. Such analogy is supported  by major authorities of history and the Bible, such as Hippolytus, Lactantius, Jerome and Theodoret of Cyrstostom as well as many renowned modern commentators such as C.F. Keil, Gleason Archer, G.H. Lang, Edward J. Young, Stephen M. Miller. With the Muslim Brotherhood more allied with the Turkish Ottoman roots, Turkey can advance into Egypt (Daniel 11) by aiding the Muslim Brotherhood and into Tunisia and Libya as we see Middle East media are beginning to acknowledge. With a war on Wahhabism, Saudi Arabia with Mecca will be toast and this next brand of Turkish Islam will be the most deceptive of its kind.

Things are moving in lightening speed in the Middle East. From Turkey’s policy of “zero conflicts” and Syria and Turkey having no visa requirements, and to turn into becoming arch enemies overnight was not something analysts expected. Syria is turning to its first love, Iran, while Turkey is turning to its new love, ISIS, the staunch enemy of the United States, which will eventually drop Turkey in the future and ally with Russia.

So stay tuned.

(1) “Sheba and Dedan” are Arabia and the UAE gulf states. As far as the “Ships of Tarshish”, regardless of all the debate over it whether its Spain or the Phoenicians (Lebanon) or a term used of large and distant-voyaging merchant vessels (Isaiah 2:161 Kings 10:22;Psalms 48:7) these would oppose the Turkish invasion since it becomes obvious that God is more of a threat to them that Israel. This is the fact today.

What we do know is that biblical Tarshish is lumped together with Turkic regions in Isaiah who clarifies the issue: “Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, …” (Isaiah 66:19). Here, Tarshish, Pul, Lud, Tubal and Javan are thrown together in one “that draws the bow,” and all these are in Turkey. This would throw a monkey wrench in the arguments Tarshish is Spain (1) trying to pass judgments on Spain and Italy as Antichrist since this fits a theological bent and a wish rather than God’s judgment on them poor Catholics.

Jonah who in attempting to flee to Tarshish from Israel boarded a ship at the port of Joppa (Israel) on the Mediterranean coast. (Jonah 1:3). This would indicate that Tarshish lies to the west. This is true, but the ships could also sail westward to Turkey and Lebanon. Even so, many modern authors are divided between Tartessos in Iberia (Spain) and Tarsus in Cilicia (Turkey). Cilicia was the ancient name of southern Turkey. Göltepe in Turkey was associated with tin mining; Kestel, located in the central Taurus Mountains of Turkey, also produced tin. Josephus cites “Tharsus” in Turkey “Tharsus to the Tharsians, for so was Cilicia of old called; the sign of which is this, that the noblest city they have, and a metropolis also is Tarsus.” (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, 6.1.127.)

Josephus, citing from the Hebrew Bible, notes that Tarshish is a descendant of Japheth (Greek: Iapetos/Japetus) and Javan (Hebrew: Javan), associated with the Greek Ionia, a province in modern western Turkey. The ancient Greek historian Athendorus, a citizen of Tarsus, traces the genealogy of Japetus, the ancestor of Javan, for Tarsus: “Athendorus, the Tarsian, said that the city was originally called Parthenia, from Parthenius, son of Cydnus, the grandson of Anchiale, daughter of Japetus…” 05 (James Hastings, Tarsus, Vol. 4 p.686, A Dictionary of the Bible, (Peabody, Mass. Hendrickson Publications, 1898, 1988 reprint.)

Charles F. Pfeiffer, editor of The Biblical World, a Dictionary of Biblical Archaeology, states, “Ancient Anatolia was famous for its metals, which were carried in Phoenician ships as trade items to other parts of the ancient Near Eastern world. Phoenician inscriptions have been found at Karatepe, in Cilicia.” Silver heads the list of precious metals associated with Tarshish, and ancient Assyrian sources noted that the Taurus Mountains above Tarsus were referred to as the Silver Mountains. In fact, modern metallurgy maps indicate that every single metal associated with Tarshish can be found in the Taurus Mountains. “Silver beaten into plates is brought from Tarshish,” (Jeremiah 10:9). The Bible itself indicates that Tarshish was a producer of silver. This cannot be Britain or Spain. Harper’s Bible Dictionary describes Tarsus: “Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia… The city was built on the banks of the swift Cydnus River, 10 miles from the Mediterranean and 30 miles south of the Taurus (“Silver”) mountains, which were veined with lead and silver. “Archaeologists found evidence of smelters in the vicinity of Tarsus in antiquity, as noted by MacQueen. The final shaping into tools and weapons was done locally, and areas devoted to this have been found at Bogazkoy and Tarsus marked by the presence of large quantities of slag. Tarsus also produced a clay crucible with bronze adhering to it.” (The Hittites and Their Contemporaries in Asia Minor. Boulder, Colorado. Westview Press. 1975.)

Since Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper, the natives of ancient Tarsus had to have had access to tin in order to make the bronze. Hodges notes that the Assyrians were interested in controlling the tin resources of Eastern Anatolia (Turkey). There can be little doubt that Sargon’s chief concern in this enterprise was to control the sources of supply of his raw materials. One is tempted, therefore, to suppose that much of the tin required for bronze making came from the mountains of Syria and Turkey. No later than the Early Bronze Age, Anatolian bronze objects were utilizing tin. The Larousse Encyclopedia of Prehistoric describes bronze production: “It seems certain that bronze and bronze working originated in the Middle East, where Anatolia and Armenia were mining regions… between 2300-2000 BC… the quantity of the bronze with an already remarkably high tin content is impressive.” (Henry Hodges, Technology in the Ancient World, (Baltimore, Maryland, Penguin Books, 1971), p.108. )

Aslihan Yener, assistant professor at the university of Chicago’s Oriental Institute, discovered an Early Bronze Age tin mine, 60 miles north of Tarsus. Aslihan Yener believes that a mine and ancient mining village she has found in the central Taurus mountains of Turkey shows that tin mining was a well developed industry in the area as early as 2870 BC… the mine at a site called Kestel—some 60 miles north of Tarsus, on the Mediterranean coast— has two miles of tunnels… nearby stands the mining village of Goltepe, which was probably occupied by 500 to 1,000 persons more or less continuously between 3290 and 1840 BC… the site contains no evidence of copper metallurgy… it did not produce bronze; instead it produced tin for export… Yener and her colleagues have analyzed tin-rich slag from 50 crucibles discovered at Goltepe. Within the total one metric ton of metallurgical debris in the form of crucible and vitrified materials, she has excavated some that have 30 percent tin content (a high percentage) still intact in the crucible.” (William Harms, “Aslihan Yener and the Bronze Age Source of Tin Found in Turkey,” Biblical Archaeology Review, vol. 20, no. 3, May-June, 1994, pp.16-17.)

If the peoples of Cilicia were capable of mining tin in the Early Bronze Age, they certainly did not need to sail to Spain to get tin to make it. Ezekiel 38:13 describes merchants of Tarshish: “Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’” While this does not conclude which side Sheba, Dedan, and the Merchants of Tarshish are on, it is clear that grabbing booty is an Islamic trait that these nations might enjoy copying. Isaiah, however, tells us about the judgment of the ships of Tarshish, “The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished,” (Isaiah 23:10).

So while the judgment is against “the ships of Tarashish”, it is revealed from the land of Chittim (Rome, Europe). Isaiah 23:6 says, “Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.” This place is somewhat related to Tarshish and is in close proximity to her in order to “pass over” to her. If Tarshish is Spain, how is Tyre to pass over such a far place? There are some who claim that Tarshish is Europe, noting a prophecy in Isaiah 60 that seems to hint to western ships that carried immigrant Jews to Israel. “Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.” (Isaiah 60:9)

However, this will be fulfilled in the Messianic Kingdom, when all the nations that hated Israel will participate in bringing the exiled Jewish captives back to their land: “The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the LORD. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory,” (Isaiah 60:6-7). They will even flock from Saudi Arabia to worship the real God—the Holy One of Israel! It is obvious that the Arabs will participate in helping the surviving Jews after Christ returns and completely defeats the Muslim nations. If Europe today is the candidate for the “ships of Tarshish,” which carry Jews back to the homeland, it’s hard to imagine Arabs (Midian, Kedar, Sheba) ever doing such thing. If anything, the Arabs today would rather drown the Jews in the sea than extend assistance to carry them to the land of Israel. Biblical Tarshish is lumped together with Turkic regions. Isaiah clarifies the issue: “And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles,” (Isaiah 66:19). Here, Tarshish, Pul, Lud, Tubal and Javan are thrown together in one “that draws the bow,” and all these are in Turkey. Why should only Tarshish be identified as Spain or England?

New whispers of an Israeli strike against Iran as nuclear deal deadline passes and Tehran continues to pursue nuclear program unimpeded.

Today is the deadline to end nuclear negotiations with Iran. Not surprisingly, the international community and Iran have not struck a deal. good, bad or otherwise. Now, another seven months has been added to the discussions. Also not surprising.

Now we face several very serious questions.

  1. Is there any hope of ever concluding a solid, useful deal — or is Iran just running the clock?
  2. Will the lack of a deal cause the U.S., Israel, or any country to take preemptive military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities?

From my vantage point, I think the evidence is clear: Iran’s current leaders have absolutely no intention of curtailing much less dismantling their illegal nuclear program. They are gaming the world community as they make significant advances towards The Bomb.

As serious, a former CIA chief now says he doesn’t believe U.S. intelligence is prepared to catch Iran in building a Bomb in the current environment. “The former head of the Central Intelligence Agency warned Thursday that without an ‘invasive inspections regime’ attached to any deal, ‘I am unwilling to guarantee American intelligence can sufficiently verify the agreement on its own,’” reports Roll Call.

To be clear, I can’t say war is coming. I can say there are whispers here that Israeli leaders may increasingly feel they have no choice. If they conclude military action is the only way, they may also conclude this is the window to strike. A Jerusalem Post headline today reads: “Cornered but unbound by nuclear pact, Israel reconsiders military action against Iran.” It’s worth reading.

As I wrote about recently, here is the context by which Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders are evaluating their options:

An exceeding dangerous moment is coming, largely due to the weakness of Western leaders, our own included.

Is war coming, or is there another way forward? I don’t want to see the U.S. or Israel or any other country have to go to war to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities. But we dare not allow the genocidal mullahs in Tehran to have the capacity to build nuclear weapons, much less the weapons themselves.

Iran Will Build Nuclear Bombs While The Ayatullah Ali Khamenei Just Threatened To ‘Annihilate Israel

By Walid Shoebat

No matter how many times Benjamin Netanyahu calls to stop Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and no matter what prophecy teachers proclaim that Israel will hit Iran’s nuclear facilities, they are all wrong; Iran will build nuclear weapons, but instead of aiming them at Israel, they will aim them at Saudi Arabia.

How do we know that? Netanyahu while calling the world to intervene, should read what his greatest grandfather Isaiah said in chapter 21 of his bestseller: The Book of Isaiah.

Isaiah brilliantly predicted that Iran (biblical Elam) must and will destroy Arabia. In Isaiah 21:9, Isaiah levels a prophetic oracle against Babylon using the same announcement in Revelation 18:1-2 and Revelation 14:8: “Babylon is fallen, is fallen”:

“The burden against Dumah” (Isaiah 21:11)

“The burden against Arabia” (Isaiah 21:13)

“All the glory of Kedar will fail” (Isaiah 21:16)

These “Dumah” and “Kedar” are all in Arabia as well as “Arabia” (v.13) is also in Arabia; it can’t get any clearer than this, which is destroyed by Iran “Elam” (Isaiah 21:2) in a complete wipeout.

There has been an immense oversight by many in the field of biblical eschatology; that when it comes to the destruction of end-days Babylon, Scripture makes no mention of any of the ancient Babylonian cities: Nineveh, Ur, Babel, Erech, Accad, Sumer, Assur, Calneh, Mari, Karana, Ellpi, Eridu, Kish, or Tikrit. All of the literal references in Scripture are in Arabia. The reason for such oversight is simple; they are overly focused on Rome, regardless that Scripture clearly says regarding the use “Babylon is fallen is fallen” references Arabia, literally, there are no burdens against Rome. I find that most who claim to say they “follow ONLY Scripture” in reality follow ‘traditional interpretations’ which they invoke over Scripture. For evidence on biblical Babylon, read: Muslims Rebuild The Tower Of Babel (Shocking Research!)

Now, besides Netanyahu’s warning, CNN is warning, a “new document by Iran’s supreme leader calling for the elimination of Israel shows that world powers must not rush into a deal on the country’s nuclear program despite an upcoming deadline, Israel’s Prime Minister said Monday”.

“There is no moderation in Iran. It is unrepentant, unreformed, it calls for Israel’s eradication, it promotes international terrorism,” Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“This terrorist regime in Iran must not be allowed to become a nuclear threshold power. And I call on the P5+1 countries — don’t rush into a deal that would let Iran rush to the bomb.” (The P5+1 refers to the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany — the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, plus Germany.)

Iran insists it only wants nuclear energy. And Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while calling for the elimination of Israel, said he opposes “a massacre of the Jewish people in this region.”

Instead, he seeks a referendum. But in the meantime, “armed resistance is the cure,” he says, calling for the West Bank to be “armed like Gaza.”

The call reflects internal Palestinian politics as well. Iran supports Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza. Hamas’ rival faction, Fatah, controls the West Bank. On Sunday, the government in the West Bank accused Hamas of bombing its leaders’ homes.

Israelis were stabbed in two “terrorist” incidents Monday, leaving one woman dead, police said.

Annihilation call made through Twitter

The Iranian leader made his call for Israel to be “annihilated” on Twitter over the weekend. Mixed in with tweets insisting that Iran is committed to diplomacy on other issues, Khamenei posted a series of tweets slamming Israel. Among them was a document called “9 key questions about elimination of Israel.”

While he and other Iranian leaders have spoken similarly of Israel in the past, the one-page document, packed with specific details, was new.

It says the “proper way of eliminating Israel” is for “all the original people of Palestine including Muslims, Christians and Jews wherever they are, whether inside Palestine, in refugee camps in other countries or just anywhere else, take part in a public and organized referendum.” The “Jewish immigrants who have been persuaded into emigration to Palestine do not have the right to take part,” he adds.

It’s unclear who Khamenei thinks the “original people of Palestine” are, given that the region’s history dates back thousands of years and includes countless waves of immigration and exile.

A June poll by the Washington Institute found that most Palestinians in Gaza oppose a two-state solution and want to work toward abolishing Israel — a goal that is in line with Hamas’ charter. A July poll by the Dialog Institute found that most Israelis support a two-state solution, Haaretz reported.

ISIS affects U.S.-Iran relations

U.S. President Barack Obama recently sent a letter to Khamenei about cooperating in the fight against ISIS, the terror group that calls itself the Islamic State. Revelations about the letter have raised questions over whether Obama’s stance on Iran is softening.

U.S. officials insist Washington is not coordinating military actions with Tehran.

“There is some deconflicting, in the sense that since they have some troops or militias they control in and around Baghdad,” Obama told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “We let them know, ‘Don’t mess with us. We’re not here to mess with you.’ We’re focused on our common enemy. But there’s no coordination or common battle plan. And there will not be.”

“We still have big differences with Iran’s behavior vis-a-vis our allies, them poking and prodding at — and creating unrest and sponsoring terrorism in the region, around the world, their anti-Israeli rhetoric and behavior,” Obama added. “So, that’s a whole ‘nother set of issues which prevents us from ever being true allies.”

Tensions between Obama and Netanyahu are widely reported. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden sought to refute them Monday.

“Like all close friends, we talk honestly with one another. We talk directly with one another. We disagree with one another. We love one another, and we drive one another crazy,” he said in a speech to the Jewish Federations of North America.

“We will not let Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, period,” he added.

The deadline for the current round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 is November 24. Obama left it unclear Sunday whether a deal will be struck by then.

“The question now is: Are we going to be able to close this final gap, so that they can re-enter the international community, sanctions can be slowly reduced, and we have verifiable, lock-tight assurances that they can’t develop a nuclear weapon? There’s still a big gap. We may not be able to get there.”

Indeed Mr. Netanyahu, your not getting there. If one can depend on Obama to accomplish anything perhaps Netanyahu can show us which catastrophe was Obama ever able to prevent? Therefore, Iran will get nukes and the Harlot of Arabia better be on the lookout.

As to all the other biblical theories I had to endure, as to why Rome is the Harlot since it sits on seven hills, when truth is that Vatican City—the city where the Catholic Church is headquartered—is not built on seven hills, but on a hill separate from the seven hills of Rome: Vatican Hill, which is not even one of the seven upon which ancient Rome was built. Those hills are on the east side of the Tiber river; Vatican Hill is on the west.

Other cities are known for having been built on seven hills as well. Istanbul is known as the City on the Seven Hills, which – consciously following the model of Rome – was built on seven hills too. There are about seventy cities that claim to be on seven hills, some of which are Jerusalem, Amman, Tehran, Brussels, Kiev, Moscow and Madrid.

Yet none of these (including Rome) were destined for destruction in the Bible, yet Arabia is (Isaiah 21).

The question I ask is this: why would Christians follow such a theory which was proposed by the Albigensian heretics? It was the Albigensians who first proposed that Rome is the Harlot of Babylon.

The Bible is also precise and pinpoints a geographic location for this “Babylon” as was predicted in Jeremiah 49:21, literally, “the Red Sea” which confirms Arabia’s destruction. This is also confirmed in Revelation 18 regarding the harlot city:

“And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning” (Revelation 18:9). “And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What [city is] like unto this great city!” (Revelation 18:18).

And once one studies Isaiah 34, there should be no doubt. In nearly identical language concerning Mystery Babylon in Revelation 17, 18:

“Its streams shall be turned into pitch and its dust into brimstone; its land shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night or day; its smoke shall ascend forever” (Isaiah 34:8-10).

Incredibly, almost three millennia before the discovery of fuel oil, Isaiah predicted the burning of the very thing that was used in Babel to build a name for the rebellious ones – the pitch. Pitch is bitumen and tar, which technically is simply crude oil.

This judgment is not against Rome but “Edom” which extends from Teman to Dedan:

“Thus Says the Lord GOD; ‘Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them. ‘Therefore thus Says the Lord GOD; ‘I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cutt off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword’” (Ezekiel 25:12-13).

The Lord vindicates Rome from this specific judgment.

Obama Facilitating Stealth Dealings between Turkey and Iran on ISIS

By Ben Barrack on November 9, 2014 in Featured, General

Barack Obama sent a letter of appeasement to Iran’s Ayatollah regarding ISIS, a supposed common enemy. Yet, as reported, Turkey – a NATO ally of the U.S. – is aligned with ISIS. This would mean that Obama is engaging Iran, one of only four officially designated State Sponsors of Terrorism, to help fight an enemy supported by NATO ally Turkey.

Why isn’t Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan furious? It’s quickly made known when he is. Last month, within hours of Vice President Joe Biden’s comments at Harvard University, that Turkey was arming jihadists in Syria, Erdogan demanded – and promptly received – an apology, as reported.

So, why would the U.S. negotiate with an officially designated State Sponsor of Terrorism in Iran against the interests of its NATO ally – Turkey? As reported months ago, perhaps that’s the wrong question to ask. A better question may have to do with the dealings between Iran and Turkey. While Iran is Shiite and Turkey is Sunni, Turkey has much more regard and reverence for Shiite Islam than do other Sunni nations like Saudi Arabia (the enmity between the Iranians and the Saudis is off the charts).

In Syria, there are currently three factions at work – the Assad regime, the Muslim Brotherhood-backed opposition that continues to deceive gullible U.S. politicians, and ISIS.

Turkey wants Assad gone in the worst way. To use a metaphor, Assad is like a bone nine feet away from a dog on an eight ft. chain. As such, Turkey is using ISIS to help weaken and ultimately break that chain. As long as Assad is in power, Turkey needs ISIS but for political reasons it cannot state so publicly, as Erdogan’s reaction to Biden’s comments demonstrate.

ISIS is currently operating in Syria and Iraq. This is where attention must be paid to the Iranian-Turkish alliance. These two countries are ready to deal because the spoils are too enticing. In the post Arab-Spring age of conquest and annexation, Iran desperately wants a victory. Claiming Iraq – a predominantly Shiite country – as its own would constitute such a victory.

In return, Assad would fall and Syria would fall to Turkey.

That would leave two players left in Syria – ISIS and those Muslim Brotherhood-backed rebels. If those are the only two options for Erdogan, he would choose the latter. ISIS will have served its purpose. Besides, ISIS Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was loudly rebuked by Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi earlier this year for declaring a Caliphate. Al-Qaradawi responded by traveling to Turkey, where he met with Erdogan and declared that Turkey would be the only home of any future Caliphate.

When Assad falls, ISIS fighters in Syria can be expected to either be absorbed by Turkey or die in defiance but the stealth Islamists in Syria are the ones Erdogan wants in power. They want the same thing he does – a Caliphate based in Turkey. All one has to do is look at how the supposed ‘moderate’ rebels in Syria are doing the same thing. As reported, as these Muslim Brotherhood-backed rebels are being defeated by ISIS, they are either fleeing to Turkey or defecting to ISIS; it’s a blueprint for what would happen when Turkey becomes fully engaged in the region.

Assad’s fall would also give Iran greater incentive to vanquish ISIS in Iraq. Again, ISIS fighters that want to be part of Turkey’s plan can defect or die in opposition.

As a short-term practical matter – not an ideological one – the U.S. would do well to actually align with Assad. Those who insist that’s a ludicrous notion should be more outraged that Obama is reaching out to Iran, whose motives can never be trusted. Iran is playing Middle Eastern poker with the West and Assad has all his cards on the table. Unlike Turkey and Iran, he has no angle at the moment; there is no hidden agenda. His interests are plain; he’s fighting for his own survival. At the moment, it is he who stands in the way of a stronger Iran and a Caliphate much bigger and more ruthless than the one declared by ISIS.

Yet, American politicians – from both sides of the aisle – continue to advocate for the worst of bad options. The two U.S. Senators who have become known as the poster boys for the Muslim Brotherhood’s agenda – John McCain and Lindsey Graham – said the following in a joint statement:

“It is outrageous that, while the cries of moderate Syrian forces for greater U.S. assistance fall on deaf ears in the White House, President Obama is apparently urging Ayatollah Khamenei to join the fight against ISIS.”

Surely, McCain and Graham would have to admit that it’d be better to engage Assad in the fight against ISIS than Iran, would it not? Ah, but that undercuts the agenda of those pesky Muslim Brotherhood-backed rebels.

Republican Presidential nominee in 2012 Mitt Romney is equally ignorant of why Obama would be engaging Iran:

“To suggest that we might somehow work together is something which is so far beyond the pale, I was speechless as I heard about it,” Romney said. “I simply can’t understand it.”

If he can’t understand it, why should he be considered an authority on the subject? Obama is helping Turkey, Iran, and the Muslim Brotherhood at the expense of that mean and nasty Bashar al-Assad who is nothing more than a flailing man in the middle of a lake. The same Assad that the likes of McCain, Graham, and Romney want removed from power.

Israel’s former Ambassador to the United Nations Dan Gillerman appeared on Fox News and compared Obama’s letter to the piece of paper Neville Chamberlain held above his head at Heathrow airport in 1938 after a meeting with Hitler (h/t GWP):
